Graphics cards have been under huge demand, with huge shortages following for several years now. Since then we’ve seen everything from black market offerings, and even fakes, attempting to fill the gap. While things may have calmed down a little over the years.
While any new graphics card comes with a lot of coverage, the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT’s biggest promise? No more shortages. They are planning on taking “additional steps” to limit shortages with their new card.
Although this might not be quite as powerful as AMD’s top offerings, this new mid range graphics card will hopefully alleviate the pains PC manufacturers and PC building hobbyists alike have seen, severe challenges getting their hands on high end graphics card.
Since this card may become the defacto graphics card for mid range PC’s, it may free up higher end cards for higher end machines.
So now that we’ve got the big news out of the way:
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Review
The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT comes in at $100 cheaper than the RX 3800 at $479. Sitting slightly less than the $499 RTX 3070.
Spec wise the the RX 6700 XT comes with 40 compute units, a 2,424MHz game clock and an strong 12GB of GDDR6 RAM. This is 4GB less RAM and 20 less compute units than the RX 6800. Even though it’s got some drop in power, this still gives enough oomph to play Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at 60 FPS with at 1440p. For current popular shooters such as Overwatch it even promises a solid 200 FPS.
As with much of the AMD line, we are expecting hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, along with AMD’s Smart Access Memory technology, combined in past this has delivered around a 16% increase in performance.
We’ll have the review coming up on launch, expected to be March 18th (although given the past launch-date misses we’ll treat that as a “tentative” date for now.
